All of my Sewing Time

...has recently been taken up by making black&gold hair accessories. I was selling them to the little league cheerleaders, but popularity has been spreading and I keep having to make more and more and more of the headbands. My sewing time has been limited due to a family reunion, accompanying my sister to college visits, redecorating (including stripping wallpaper!) the living room, a special project my grandparents needed completed, and general life so the several dozen headbands I've whipped up have taken all my sewing time for the past two weeks or more. I'm hoping to get back to my quilting soon, but in the meantime am enjoying people's responses to my little creations.
Hair things have been a great project for using up some of my stash and scraps, particularly the non-cotton materials. These mesh scrunchies (I think I ended up with 11 of them) didn't even last one night of sales! People loved how they looked like they were made out of football jerseys.
It took me awhile to figure out how to make these headbands. The first couple didn't turn out too well, but after tweaking my design they are now coming out great! Each batch is different and most of the headbands are unique. There were a few bows and some ribbons too, but I forgot to take pictures of those.

My Fabulous Failure

I was inspired a few days ago to create a little makeup bag out of some of the 3" squares I have accumulated. Not having a pattern, I decided to just wing it. I pulled 6 random blue squares and 6 random red squares and stitched the front and back of the bag together. I managed to piece sides and a bottom on though I'm sure there must be a better way to construct a bag than how I did it. I made a lining and put the whole thing together only to discover that there was no good way to put a closure on the top due to the dimensions of the bag. I was disappointed, but not discouraged and have made a couple more attempts since. None have been just what I'm looking for yet.
Anyway, after sitting for a day or so on the edge of my sewing table I discovered that although my first attempt failed as a makeup bag it makes a perfect little basket.
I've loaded it up with all the threads I like to keep on my sewing table for easy access and it is perfect for containing them.
I also have project cards for several of my projects that are in various stages of completeness tucked in the back. This way I can make notes about dimensions, what I still need, etc so if I set it aside for awhile and go back later I won't have forgotten anything.Pretty fabulous for a failure, huh?

Another Skirt

Despite my lack of blogging lately, I have actually been doing quite a bit of quilting. However, I've been doing little picture taking. One project I did manage to get a picture of was another little reversible skirt. On the left is the first skirt I made and on the right side is the second. The two sides don't match as well on the second skirt, but I loved the zebra and purple lace together so I didn't look for something that matched the red side any better.

I'll post more updates as soon as I get pictures...hopefully tomorrow.

Show Props

My crafting time yesterday and today was spent making some props for a show my sisters are in this Friday. They needed six money bags for a western bank robbery number. My mom was going to hot glue some fabric together to try and make them, but I knew I could do it much quicker and cleaner with my sewing machine. I had some poly-fil left from an old project that I used to stuff them and I used a permanent marker to draw on the money signs. The fabric was already cut into pieces and they needed them quickly so I did what I could with it. They aren't anything special, but I hope they will work for the show.
I spent the weekend in Georgia for a friend's graduation party and on Sunday we got to see an old plantation. I was excited to see quilts in a number of the buildings, but didn't have my camera. Luckily, one of my friends took some pictures for me. As soon as I get them from him I'll be posting them here.
